Alex Nesterov

Chair of "Queer Asylum: Finland",
active participant in "Democratic Community of Russian-speakers in Finland",
former member and co-founder of "VENUKI: Russian Democratic Group of Uusikaupunki",
human rights and queer activist

I came to Finland in 2022 as a refugee (I was granted for it only in 2025), so I deeply understand asylum, queer identity, and the constant feeling of danger from one’s country of origin. I fight passionately for equality, accessibility, and inclusion—no exceptions. My mission is clear: challenge injustice, amplify silenced voices, and ensure diversity is not just respected but celebrated. Feel free to ask anything and join us—let’s stand together to make this world kinder and fairer.

Aleksei Karachevskii

I live in Finland with my husband. I am part of the queer community: I share my experience, support other asylum seekers, and advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights in Finland.

I have been fighting against Putin's regime since my school years. The QA:FI strives to make life safer and more secure for people who have fled from dictatorships.

Mariia Moskvina

I live with my wife in Finland. I am an asylum seeker who has gone through all stages of processing and is now on the second round. Speaking out against the Russian regime, Putin and the war. Making a fuss in the QA:FI and fighting for the rights of LGBTQ+ asylum seekers in Finland. Ready to support and share our experience with everyone in need.

Arsenij Reicher & Alexander Altschuler

Irina Medvedeva (aka. Kira Herschel)

Member of "Queer Asylum: Finland",
Member of Youth Democratic Movement "Vesna",
Activist of human rights

Since 2017, I have been involved in various movements supporting LGBT rights, feminism, and democracy. I volunteered with the “Dejstvie” movement in 2017–2018 (a group that supported LGBT individuals), and I served as an election observer with the “Golos” organization. In 2021, I joined the “Vesna” movement. In the spring of 2022, I faced persecution from the Russian authorities and was forced to flee to Finland. In 2023, I was granted political asylum. I am currently studying to become an auto mechanic in college and creating awareness cards about political prisoners.
